Last night was quite a night!

Shirley Taylor brought another Whole Cloth.

I believe she said it is her 7th and she has two more to go!

Isn't it beautiful?  She started quilting it in mid-January.  That boggles my mind!!

Monroe Quilt Show

Last week, Cynthia, Mary Ann and I went to Monroe to attend the quilt show there.  I took pictures with my phone, some of which are of dubious quality, but you'll get the idea!  The two above are a teaser.

I wish I could give you a narration of the various pieces.  Some were made of vintage fabrics.  The silk tie piece was amazing.  The two featured quilters had some stunning work displayed.

And wonderful as it was, I still like our show best.  There is "heart" in ours.  We are truly blessed.

Some past celebrations!

Now that the quilt show is over, I can post Susy's "Lois Quilt" which needed to remain a surprise until then.

And Theresa shared a "little" last week which I didn't get to posting until now.  So here they are!

The story behind Susy's  "Lois Quilt" is that the blocks, which were Lois's first applique project, went through the flood and sustained stain damage.  Lois tried to get them clean but had trouble gettting all the stains out.  She decided to give them away and Susy took them.  She then finished the quilt top, quilted it and entered it in the show to surprise Lois.

2014 Quilt Show!

At last, I have the photos in a format so everyone can look at them.  If I uploaded them all to the blog, it wouldn't work very well, so I've made a public Picasa album, and you can access the pictures by clicking on this link:

If you'd be interested in having a DVD with all the pictures on it, please let me know.  I'll be burning them this next week.  There are 338 photos which include Connie's bed turning, all of Barb's quilts, all of Dorothy's quilts, and all of the rest of ours, plus broad shots of the Linus and Passage displays in the library, Virginia's quilt groupings in the entry and some of what Lois showed in her class.  It also includes the wedding gown and double wedding ring quilt display.  Most of the photos are pretty well in focus.  A few aren't and if you'd like me to re-shoot any of yours to include on the disc, please don't hesitate to ask me.  I'd be more than happy to.

February 25 Quilt Celebrations!

Tuesday evening was our last gathering before the quilt show, and we were full up again with quilts to celebrate.  What a lot of fun!

We celebrated a quilt I made in 2009 that had come in for the quilt show.

It's called Pine Tree Log Cabin, and I made it for a dear friend

for her birthday that year.  I made it entirely from my stash.

Nancy showed us "Vicksburg" which she made for her brother.

It is so rich in its coloring and the pattern is wonderful.

Ruth brought her blue and purple "Pinwheel" quilt to celebrate.  Beautiful colors!

Joann shared her Yoyo quilt, made with over 1400 yoyos!  Can you imagine?!

Diana brought 3 to celebrate.  First, a quilt she made for her husband.

Second, her "Chicken Quilt" with a feed sack back!

Third, her Double Wedding Ring quilt.  Absolutely beautiful!

Beckie brought her moose quilt, made for her husband who designed it. 

Barb did the quilting.  In the closeup you can see a moose quilted

into the border.  Isn't that cool?!

February 18th Quilt Celebration!

Excitement is in the air!!!  The quilt show is just around the corner.  NEXT WEEK!!

So, we had another major quilt celebration evening.  So many beautiful pieces.

First, Theresa showed some Linus quilts.  The first is Called "Hugs for Heroes" and features fabric that was designed especially for Linus.  Isn't it darling?  It is Snoopy wearing all kinds of rescue personnel apparel.

The second is a softie!  Fun for pet-loving folks!  Here are both of them.

Connie shared her Jacob's quilt which she made for her daughter-in-law's father, whose cabin the Taylors use as a family.

Toni shared three beauties.  The first is her Jelly Roll Rail Fence.  Isn't it lovely?  The colors are so wonderfully warm.

The second is her Block-of-the-Month, "Green Piece", which is a pieced star sampler and applique-in-wool.  I am so impressed.  I took a few close ups of the wool applique blocks.  Aren't they amazing?  The pear block has special significance for Toni because Virginia helped her with it and is the one who encouraged her to try wool applique.

Her third is a delightful hexi which she made for her mom.  She also made a flannel quilt for her dad, but he wasn't willing to give it up for her to show it to us!

Geralyn brought Virginia's quilt to celebrate, as well.  It has had over 40 people work on it, from a 4-year-old granddaughter of Virginia's, to the oldest among us.  From its beginnings, such care has been taken on this lovely creation.  Thank you, Geralyn, for instigating this project and for your tireless efforts in getting it completed.  It's just lovely.

Quilt Dating and February 11 Quilt Celebration!

What an awesome night!  Shirley Taylor came and helped us date some wedding ring quilts that will be on display at the quilt show.  I was absolutely fascinated by what she was able to tell us about them.  From knowing the date by recognizing fabrics she personally knew from the 30s from her own clothing and that of her mom and grandma, to knowing a color's origins were in Dresden dyes before the bombing in WWII destroyed the dyeing plants and rendered the colors impossible to replicate, she was able to impart a wealth of information.  Thank you, Shirley, for the wonderful lessons and for enabling us to know which quilt to put with which dress for the quilt show!

Jessie brought her Irish Chain to celebrate tonight.  She told of how the quilt came about.  The green 2-ish inch squares were found in the fabric room at the Nazarene church a few years ago, many of which had orange in them.  The borders grew from not being able to find an orange or a green that worked.  In the end, the blue was best.  Maggie designed Celtic Cross knots for the orange squares which Jessie hand quilted.  Her label describes the significance to her of the colors of the quilt in terms of Protestant and Catholic influences in Ireland, and Saint Patrick, as well.  Thank you for sharing this, Jessie.  It was delightful hearing about it.

Barb shared her whole cloth quilt done in red on white.  It's so beautiful.  I wish the pictures did it justice.  It is entitled "Welsh Beauty" and she made the quilt in honor of her Grandpa Pete, who if I have this right, was from Nantyglo, Wales.  Thank you for the story, Barb.  The quilt is just lovely.

Marla brought her "Apple Crisp" quilt done in Civil War reproduction fabrics, the pattern for which she got from APQ.  It's for her niece as a wedding gift.  It is so warm and inviting -- I love the colors.  Barb machine quilted it for her.  It's lovely, Marla.
