December 10th Quilt Celebrations!

Tuesday evening we had a very small gathering at quilting.  Probably the weather and the holidays claiming attention.  But, we had a couple of projects to celebrate!

Cynthia brought a lovely reverse applique pillow.
Calla Lilies in red.  Isn't it gorgeous?!

And Connie brought Sammy's Racetrack.
She designed and sewed it as a Quillow and added the cars, too!
Such a fun piece, Connie!

December 3rd Christmas Party and Quilt Celebrations!

We had such a wonderful time on Tuesday night celebrating Christmas together.  We shared a delightful potluck meal together, brought a pile of donations for the Mission in town, celebrated a few quilts,  listened to Connie read a tear-jerker Christmas story, and then exchanged ornaments.  I love the memories we make every time we get together!

I took some pictures of the evening, as did Ruth Decker, and here they are......

Gifts and the Nativity

Lots of food!

Five tables almost full!  There were 30 of us!

Fun Decorations!

Including these darling angels that Barb suggested we make
and use for the tables and as a take-home.

 Our donation pile.

Getting ready for quilt celebrations....

I designed and made a Christmas quilt for 2013
under the guise that I was making it for myself.
I used Moda's Wintergreen charm squares
and two other pieces from the same line.
Very simple pattern to show off the fabrics.

I had planned for months that the reveal would be
at our Christmas party, and it worked!

Jessie was completely surprised!
Score!

Connie shared a quilt that had started with being a donation to Linus,
but didn't seem quite appropriate, so Connie finished it
and is giving it to a friend who has battled cancer and is still on the journey.
It's all cats and there is something for each month of the year.

The back has cats on it, too!
Cute!

And Shirley Taylor shared this whole cloth quilt with us.
Beautiful!

She used a green thread for the quilting.
It's for one of her grandchildren.
Isn't it stunning?!

Then Connie read to us.....

.....then we had our ornament exchange.
As always, it was great fun.

Highlight of the evening, however, was the fact that June
scored the highest in being stolen from.
She was heard quietly saying, amid great laughter,
"I don't know why anyone would want to steal from me."
I think it was around the fifth or sixth time,
and eventually she just sat down next to Annie at the gift table
where she could easily reach a gift the next time.
Which happened at least twice more.
Physical comedy at its best!

And here's a shot of most of us that I patched together from 6 different pictures!
You can click on it to see it larger.

And here is the group shot!!

Blessed Christmas to each of you!

November 26th Quilt Celebrations!

Well, on this Thanksgiving Eve's Eve,
we had a beautiful display of quilts to celebrate.

Marla brought a feast for our eyes.......

First, her selvedge quilt in this lovely setting.
Can you see how the blocks are made and set together?
If you start at a corner, you can see how they're done.

And then these two littles.....
Aren't they fabulous?

Her applique here is wonderful
and the fabric choices are so much fun.

I love the old buttons on this one.

And then Theresa brought this fun quilt for Linus.

It was designed by one lady, put together by another,
and then Theresa quilted it.
Aren't the colors fun?  And the quilting looks great.
I regret that I didn't get a close up of the back
which showcases the quilting pattern.

Beautiful work, ladies!!

Happy Quilting!!
And Happy Thanksgiving!!

November 19th Quilt Celebrations!

Okay, I'm really behind it here.  I just plain forgot to get these pictures up!

First, Susy showed us her Chevron & Owl baby quilt for her next grandbaby.
Isn't the Owl just cute?!

And she also had a Minky Blanket she made,
a tradition for each of her grandchildren.
The fabric is so beautiful.

Such fun, Susy!
Beautiful work, as always.

* * * * * * * * * * *

And then Connie showed us a "Bricks" quilt that she did for Linus.
The color play here is fun.

And here is her "Raspberry Swirl," a project from the
Jo Morton class several of our group took at Momma Made It.

This is also known as "Sammy's Race Track,"
being that her grandson enjoyed running his cars on the sashing!
Beautiful work, Connie!

Happy Quilting!!

November 12th Quilt Celebrations (11-12-13 !!)

I do love a good date!  And yesterday's was a fun one.

!! 11-12-13 !!

Last night we had a couple of fun celebrations!

First, Marylu shared her selvege quilt.
She used a Barn-Raising pattern.
Isn't it just wonderful?!
It's so much fun to just look at it and
take in all the fabrics represented in the blocks.
Beautiful, Marylu!

Then Ruth DeBoer shared her hexi table topper
which she made for her mother-in-law.
She used the leftover fabrics from her Jacob's Quilt,
backing and all!
The colors and presentation are so beautiful.
Great work, Ruth!

And then, after a mass exodus from the library,
we had a lineup waiting for the train!

Happy Quilting!!

Retreat Recipes

Hi Everyone,

I've loaded the recipes from the Retreat onto a new page here on the blog.  At the top of this page, just under the header, you'll see three tabs: Home, Retreat Recipes and Quilt Show.  Just click on the Recipe tab, and the recipes are there according to the day they were served at the Retreat.

Please, if you find errors in the recipes, let me know!  They have been bodged together from a bunch of sources and I found several of errors as I went through them, but I'm not sure I caught all of them!

Thanks!  And enjoy!

Seabrook Retreat!

The consensus of the group that went to Seabrook for our retreat is that it was a really good time.  Here are a few pictures of the weekend.

If any of you have more pictures you'd like to share, please send them to me and I'll put them up with these.

Aren't we awesome!?!
The guy who took our pictures was a great sport, and funny, too!

Tea Food!

Some of us dressed up beautifully!

using William Morris reproductions
Lots of good sewing went on there!

Pat had her machine up there, as well.

Maggie's awesome packing job.
There was NO room left in the Jeep!

November 5th Quilt Celebrations!

Jessie and I each shared a project on the 5th of November.  I'm post dating this because the advent calendar was a gift, and I didn't want to risk spoiling the surprise!

I made this for my daughter-in-law and grandchildren
for Christmas 2013.  Something new for them.
It was a lot of fun to make, challenges and all!
It's a Nancy Halvorsen panel with the figures
fused to felt and then stitched.  I put the hanging
floss on with buttons on the back of each figure,
then attached them to the border and middle
by using a button-type hanger for each.

This one shows the figures in their proper places
after Advent is finished.

And this is of my grandkiddos with it on Day 2.

Jessie made this crazy patch pillow for
my husband and me for our 35th anniversary.
It matches the quilt top she made for us for our 25th!
Such fun and such treasures.

Happy Quilting!!
